Traveling to Bratislava

Last week, I went to Bratislava, Slovak Republic, for business trip. The journey from Jakarta to Bratislava toke approximately 20 hours by flight with the route via Jakarta-Singapore-Frankfurt-Vienna-Bratislava. From Jakarta to Singapore and from Singapore to Frankfurt, I used SQ (Singapore Air) and total took around 17 hours. Then, from Frankfurt to Vienna I used LH (Lufthansa) and the journey took 2 hours. From Vienna to Bratislava I used bus, Slovakline bus, from Vienna airport to Bratislava and it took 1 hour.  As both SQ and LH are member of star Alliance so we could check in those all connecting flight in one place which was in Jakarta (Soekarno-Hatta Airport). The process in Jakarta Airport were so many steps so you must have time at least more than 1 hour to fulfill all steps until the boarding gate as in every step you must keep waiting in line due to many passengers. First step was security check for entering the check in gate. After that step, we entered the next step which was check in process. In this step, we got boarding pass and paid the air port tax Rp150.000. We also got departure and arrival form which must be filled as that form would be used in immigration gate. After that step, we went to fiscal free zone for NPWP card checking. If our NPWP were failed being validated, then we must pay fiscal in fiscal check gate. Otherwise, we got free of fiscal fee at fiscal gate.  After that step, then we went to Immigration step for passport checking. Well, after that step finally we could go to final security check and then able to entered boarding gate. Huh.. so many step.. :( .

Connecting flight like we did sometime made us hurry as we must know ASAP where the next gate for connecting flight to the next destination and then went to the gate which was informed in airport screen ASAP as usually we arrived in one terminal, let say in terminal A, and then we should go to the another terminal, let say terminal B, and normally the terminal B was located in very far away from terminal A. Don’t forget that sometime we also should keep waiting in line for long time at passport checking and security checking step in the connecting airport. That case was happened in my connecting flight when I was in Frankfurt Airport.
After landing in Vienna airport, we went to Bratislava by bus named Slovakline. This bus operated from Vienna city into Bratislava City with cost 7.7 EUR and additional 1 EUR for one luggage. At that moment, we only knew from Google Map that the hotel which would be used was located near Mlynske Nivy, therefore we ride slovakline bus to Mlynske Nivy. After we arrived there by slovakline bus, we knew that Mlynske Nivy was actually the main bus station in Bratislava. As we didn’t know where we should go, then we bought map at that place. From Google map and also bought map, we know that the hotel was located quite far from bus stations so we need to use bus to reach that hotel. Unfortunately, there were many buses with many destinations which each route was identified by number and the ticket should be bought in automatic ticket machine. Then, we started to watch and learn how to buy ticket and we know that the price of ticket depend on the time duration of riding the bus. As we didn’t know the bus stops which near with hotel and we also didn’t know how long the time which needed to reach the hotel and after asked several people but got no satisfied result, then we decided to walk to reach the hotel. By walking, we had oportunity to sightseeing and take some picture while walking. After arrived in our hotel, then we knew that the map which we bought actually little bit incorrect putting the location of the Hotel. The location of our hotel actually not too far from the bus stations like as stated in the map which we bought. At the hotel, we asked everything to the hotel staff and also finally able to break the mystery of how to read the bus information and symbol in bus stop :) .

From the tourist guide book which given by hotel staff, we know that the centre of Bratislava City also commonly known as old town was located not far away from our hotel. Then we went there using bus with destination Rajska with 15 minutes charge ticket bought using automatic ticketing machine. After we ride in bus, that bus ticket must be punched into automatic ticket machine within the bus which gave the ticket some sign with date, time, and a hole. Without that mark, the ticket was invalid ticket.
In Old town, there were many old exotic building which still can be found and can be used until today as  Bar, restaurant, hotel, museum, castle, curch, and another building in there. There were also one big hall, named Old town Hall, place where we could take a rest for a while and also bought some local handicraft. Even we went there at 7 PM, but because of spring season, the sky was still clear until 9 PM. It means day was longer than night and we could able to sightseeing in another location :D .
In Bratislava, we could see one castle which can be seen from all of bratislava place. That castle was Hrad Castle. Hrad Castle was located in top of the hill near old town. But when we got there, that castle was being renovated. As that castle was on the top of the hill, we could see many good scanery from there which were Danuba river with many ship, the new bridge, and also the appolo bridge.
Well, for another story and picture in Bratislava and will be posted soon :)
